Kelly Macdonald is strong as Helen Radley. Bo Bragason is also strong as Clara Radley. Damian Lewis and the rest of the cast are pretty vague and have no real presence. The casting is a big mistake. The story is about a family of vampires who no longer drink human blood. The problem is that there’s no plot. It’s more like a few days in the life of a boring vampire family. We’re just staggering from one scene to the next with nothing really happening. There are always scenes where people just stare at each other or stare at the wall. Nothing happens and we’re not given any feeling. People sit or stand there and do nothing for a few seconds. Aside from Helen and Clara, none of the characters really have any personality. Perhaps one of the worst characters I’ve seen in a long time is the pseudo-hippie vampire boss Will, also played by Damian Lewis. The character is not very well thought out and Lewis’ acting skills can’t do anything with the character. So we have mostly bad actors, a bad cast, a bad script and amateur cinematography and direction. We are then told that it is not only a horror film, but also a comedy. I just finished watching it and honestly I don’t remember anything funny happening during the entire show. It’s almost funny how bad the film is, maybe that’s what it means? Ultimately, the film makes no sense. It has no point. It is nothing more than a boring documentary about a few boring middle-class vampires going about their daily lives in a boring way. It’s very boring to watch, and when the end came and a long, meaningless speech came to an end, I said, “Finally, thank God, this is over, and I think that’s generous.”
