Narrative
When Cardinal Lawrence is given the task of presiding over one of the most secret and ancient events in the world: the election of a new Pope. He finds himself at the center of a conspiracy that could shake the foundations of the Catholic Church. Much of what Cardinal Lawrence and the rest of the cardinals do during the conclave process in the film is in keeping with Catholic belief and centuries-old tradition.

The Vatican actually officially announces that the throne of the Holy See (the governing body of the Catholic Church) is vacant. The members of the College of Cardinals are actually sequestered in chambers (called the Domus Sanctae Marthae, or House of Saint Martha in real life) to eat and sleep between votes. And finally, the windows and doors of the Sistine Chapel, where the actual elections take place and the votes are cast, are actually blacked out, shuttered and locked to preserve the secrecy of the conclave.

Conclave is a huge disappointment. Although it is a feast for the eyes, well filmed and directed, and has great sets and costumes, the story is so hilariously boring that I fell asleep a couple of times in the first 45 minutes.
I would pass on Conclave if I were you
Even the unexpected twist at the end of the plot doesn’t do much except give us a bunch of politically correct types telling us the stories they want to tell, not the stories we want to hear, and charging us money for the “privilege” of having to endure their fantasies.
