Struggling with his dual identity, failed comedian Arthur Fleck meets the love of his life, Harley Quinn, while incarcerated at Arkham State Hospital. Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleeson and writer-director Todd Phillips talk about what scared them the most about the musical sequel. . Joker 2 once again tries to delve into the mind of Arthur Flack, but unfortunately it follows the first film too much. The original Joker was such a thorough and thorough character study that by the end it seemed like there was little left to explore. It’s that feeling that permeates this sequel as it struggles to find new dimensions to Arthur’s complex psyche, making the film more of an epilogue than a fresh narrative. Joaquin Phoenix, as expected, gives a great performance as Arthur Flack. Lady Gaga also adds depth to the role of Harley Quinn, adding new momentum to Arthur’s story.
In the end, Joker 2 feels more like a sequel that didn’t have much to say
However, the film constantly detracts from their strong performances with unnecessary musical numbers and courtroom dramas that don’t match them. Ironically, the film feels best when it references the iconic scenes and atmosphere of the first film, rather than when it tries to experiment with new elements. The references to Arthur’s lonely and troubled journey in the original film evoke the same terrible tension and emotional weight that made the Joker so powerful. However, the attempts to add new layers with courtroom drama and musical sequences that appear out of nowhere end up spoiling the story and feel more like a distraction than a meaningful addition. The film stands out most when it focuses on the twisted and toxic relationship between the Joker and Harley. Phoenix and Gaga’s chemistry adds an exciting layer to the film, but unfortunately these moments are too few.

While it has its highlights, especially in the performances, the film feels like an unnecessary addition to the first chapter rather than a compelling new chapter. Fans of the original film may find it redundant, as it offers little new exploration of Arthur’s character or the world he inhabits.
