This is the third attempt at a television series based on Cruel Intentions (1999)

Narrative

After a dark scene at an elite academy, sisters Caroline and Lucien decide to maintain their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. A direct-to-video sequel, Cruel Intentions 2 (2000), with Amy Adams replacing Sarah Michelle Gellar in the role of Kathryn Merteuil, was originally a scripted television series before being re-edited as a feature film.

It follows Cruel Intentions (1999)

Gellar later reprised her role as Kathryn in the 2016 NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series. With the exception of Sara Silva, who played CeCe, all of the actors were terribly cast.

I’m not saying they weren’t decent actors

To say that the acting was average is an understatement. But the main characters were not right for the roles.

It’s not a completely different story

The plot was decent and while it’s clear they aren’t the same characters as in the original film, they are loosely based on them. They did imitate some of the scenes from the original, like Caroline kissing Annie.

It would have helped if the show hadn’t used the title “Cruel Intentions”, but still, these actors and actresses missed the mark

Lucian was supposed to be a sexy character, like Sebastian, but they overlooked the fact that Zak Burgess had the right look and actor for the role. Sara Catherine Hook, who played Caroline, did a decent job as a female dog, but like Zak and the character of Lucien, they weren’t very “sexy and seductive”.
